If you have been thinking of installing a new path or walkway at home, pavers are the best material for that. This material will be important in adding a new and attractive look to your compound at home as well as increasing the value of your home in case you consider selling it in the future. Think about using a mixture of pavers for paver installation so that it brings out the best.

Installing the pavers is not a hard task as long as the one doing it carries out the right procedure. If this is not the case, it can turn out to be very difficult. Considering that the steps are not hard to follow; you can undertake the task on your own and do not have to hire another person to do it for you. The first step is to have all the materials which are needed ready for the task. Some of the materials necessary are shovels, gravel which has been crushed, a gardening hose and a rubber mallet. Therefore, prepare them in advance.

After you get these supplies ready, the next thing is to get ready for the task. There are some steps that ought to be considered to ensure that the results are good enough. The first step is to outline the project. One needs to get a diagram that illustrates how the task will be carried out. Draw this project then outline the specific the area that you plan to pave. A string and yard stakes are used to outline the area. This is important because it helps you to get the right measurements you need to buy.

The next thing is to excavate. The step is vital because it ensures that the area is clear. Get rid of all rocks, shrubs and roots in that area that might make it uneven. After getting rid of such things, you need to excavate the soil. That is done using a shovel and the person doing it must dig out well. Doing that gives space to fit in sand, pavers and gravel.

Laying the correct gravel base is the step that follows next. The base should be about two inches thick. However, in areas where the drainage is poor or water logged areas, the grave ought to be made of more inches. This is not the last step though. Addition of sand should be the next step as it is very important.

After completing these steps, the other bit is to pave the selected area. That is done by first selecting one corner then beginning the paving procedure from that corner. Lay the pavers one by one ensuring that they lay flat. If there are any crooked pavers, remove sand beneath them.

Pack each stone using a rubber mallet. That is essential because it ensures each stone is securely placed within the sand bed. Leaving behind a loose stone might cause cracks in future. You may use any leftovers to fill cracks existing between stones.

Applying a sealant is the last but important step. It makes sure that the stone is well secured. It also ensures durability of the path. These are the guidelines for paver installation.
