Normally, it is always unnecessary to seek services of professionals for tree trimming. This is however only true if you have the right techniques. Whether you are doing it for beautification of your compound or for any other reason, you need head start to put you on the right track. This is in form of the ideas and techniques that will help you achieve get it right.

Other than for aesthetic value, there are several reasons why you should consider tree trimming. The top of these is safety. Old branches can present a potential hazard as they can fall on the roof or injure people around. In addition to this, they can be a source of obstruction when driving. Worst still, it is dangerous to allow them grow over to utility lines, and particularly the electricity one. At any given time, not more than a quarter of the plant crown should be cleared in one season. Two-thirds of foliage should remain intact in the process raising the crown. On the other hand, the crown reduction should be avoided unless necessary. When doing this, be sure to cut off the branches which have half of foliage to be cleared.

When the target is to thin the crown of the tree, there are best practices that you need to be aware of. The lateral branches need even spacing and this should be done at all costs. Secondly, the branches crossing or running against other branches should be the priority. Not more than a quarter of the crown should be removed at a ago, instead, it should be spread over years.

The plant pruning is best done when it is in dormant season unless there is hazard. When pruning, focus on weak branches with V-shapes and narrow angles. The strong looking branches with U-shaped angles are the ones to be retained. At the end of it all, have the ration between the crown and the tree height at least two-thirds.

In all this, you should make sure to retain the collar of the branch. The cutting should also be done at an appropriate angle to avoid injuring the plant unnecessarily. Otherwise, tree trimming can be easier than imagined. It does not require specialized skills, just a little practice.
