Climbing trees is something that is almost ingrained in the human psyche. Most man made structures exist in stark contrast to what nature provides. Tree houses provide a more hidden away area and feel that appeals to everyone from the young to the old. Before you can do any tree house repairs and accessorizing you need to build one.
People often build them for several different reasons. Some times someone just requires a place that they can go hang out away from everybody and everything so they can start relaxing. Some people have children which would love a play area which is unique if other children decide to come over. Some people build one simply because, to be truthful, they are fun and many adults dream about building one since they were children.
There is something about being high up in the air that makes the primal part of people's mind feel safer. Down on the ground is where all the predators and dangerous animals roam that could have hurt people in the distant past. Unlike most animals people can build amazing structures that blend into nature without hurting the trees they are built on and around.
Generally it is much safer and easier to construct one if you do it with someone's help. Even if you built reasonably high like 3 feet from the ground, it will still help to have extra hands to help. Friends are always great but never overlook the obvious, with some supervision, even many younger children are good assistants and can learn a little bit while helping.
It is often a poor idea to just cobble something together, nothing looks worse than a shanty looking house in your back yard. Make a plan for what you need and draw it on paper. You can fine tune things, but sticking with a plan makes things much easier should you encounter problems later while building it. There are several free plans to download on the internet.
Once it is constructed, most repairs are pretty simple. Save your design plans so you can refer to them. Generally the biggest problems arise when the wood begins to weather and rot. It is generally best to cut out any infected wood completely and replace it with treated lumber. For roof repairs, a steel roof is often the most cost effective methods to use, as well as being considerably lighter than shingles.
No hideaway is complete without some cool accessories. Some of the more common ones are rope swings, chairs, ladders and bridges. Some of the more uncommon ones are zip lines, retractable roofs, electric power and a second story. Some things you should always include are a trapdoor to get in or out and at least two windows.
Remember there are just about as many different kinds of tree houses that people build as there are types of trees. Many tree house repairs can be simple and easily finished. Most new accessories are also inexpensive and easy to install. They often are not elaborate like the houses most people live in, but young children will surely be thankful for them.
