As Christmas day approaches, you should get started with Christmas light installation. This involves decorating your property with lights. The first thing that you need to do is to select a suitable lighting display for your home. The lighting display should match with the style of your home and the neighborhood.

If are not sure about the kind of lighting you should use, you can get ideas from the internet or from magazines. The lighting installed on houses around the area you live can also give you an idea of what can work well with your home. However, refrain from copying the way another home is decorated. Another good place to get holiday light installation ideas is from home furnishing stores.

After getting an idea of how to install holiday lighting on your property, you should then prepare the display and lighting areas. Examine the lights to ensure that they will work. Look out for areas in the cords that may be frayed before you take the lights up the ladder. If you find a frayed cord, it is advisable to dispose of the whole string in order to eliminate the risk of fire.

The other step you should take is to check for a power source that is close to the roof line of your house such the porch. After this, get an extension cord that is able to withstand harsh weather conditions and is compatible with the lights you have chosen. If your home has an exterior outlet, you can install an extension cord from it to the roof. Just make sure that you keep the cord a close as possible to your house.

When performing Holiday light installation, make sure that you use the right tools. This includes a sturdy ladder and a bucket or basket. Installing outdoor lighting is physically demanding due to the amount of lifting, careful aligning and careful placement required. It is therefore advisable to ask one or two people to help you complete the task.

Being safe when completing such a project is essential. Make sure that you do not climb down and up the ladder very many times and avoid leaning in order to reach an item. If you strain to reach something, just move the ladder to the next position so that you can prevent falls. Make sure that the display areas are ready before moving on to the next phase.

The other step is to install fasteners such as holders and hooks over which you will drape the extension cords and light strings. Fasteners will make it easier for you to hang the lights. You should space them uniformly. The ideal fasteners to use are those made from materials that do not conduct electricity such as heavy duty plastic and rubber.

When the fasteners are secured in place, you can now begin installing the lights. Start at the power outlet and follow the hooks and holders all the way through. During Christmas light installation, do not plug many strings of lights at the same time since doing this can cause on overload. After hanging and plugging in the strings, check them to see if they are secured on the hooks and holders. In this way, they will not get knocked off by the wind, small animals or birds.
