Black bamboo is a kind of plant that produces flowers and is known by scientific name as Phyllostachys nigra. It belongs to the subfamily of Poaceae grass. The plant originally came from the Hunan province of China. At the time of its discovery, it was mostly confined in China, but that has changed. Today, it is very common to see black bamboo plants in pots.

The plant grows at a very slow rate, talking several years to advance to a sizable height. That is probably one of the reasons it can be planted conveniently in pots and other kinds of vessels. A full grown plant can measure up to five meters in height and produces leaves that spread to cover a large area. Once it has achieved a given height, it is usually transplanted into the ground so that it can continue growing.

Many people prefer planting this plant in their gardens because social, aesthetic, and economic benefits associated with it are many. Since it is a plant, it is an eco-friendly solution for homes. The trees can be planted by people or it may grow without human or animal influence. In the latter case, it is considered to be invasive and usually spreads fast to kill native plants in a place.

Some of the major benefits derived from black bamboo plants include shade, privacy, security, timber, food, and protection against strong winds. There are many places around the world, especially on the Asian continent where the plant is eaten as food by the natives. It is also a useful source of timber that is used to make different types of products such as musical instruments, furniture, and flooring products.

Plants naturally derive nutrients and water from the soil, but those grown in containers need to be supplied with those nutrients. They die if that is not done. The soil in which black bamboos are planted must be slightly acidic and fertile. Fertility and acidic can be boosted by applying artificial products. However, care should be exercised not to exceed the required acidity level. The high resistance of Phyllostachys nigra to drought makes daily watering unnecessary.

The choice of pot should ensure enough space including room for growth every year. Growing in small pots will require frequent transplanting into bigger containers, which disrupts normal growth and may cause retardation. Strength and durability of the container should also be high. Harsh elements of weather such as rainfall, frost, ice, sunshine, and strong winds should not affect it much.

Holes should be made at the bottom of the container to allow drainage of excess water. Pots offer better conditions for growing the tree because they are porous. Porosity keeps the air well aerated so that roots do not rot due to lack of oxygen. It also ensures that the soil does not become waterlogged.

Potted plants are easier to manage because once soil issues have been sorted out, the only thing left is to ensure proper irrigation. This can be done in the morning or evenings and does not have to be daily. Companies that sell potted plants should be in a position to offer assistance.
