More and more people in Houston, TX are turning to sod instead of waiting for grass seed to take root. There are several reasons for this. The main one being that, with sod you get instant gratification. You do not have to wait for seed to sprout. You also get a completely full, lush, lawn in a matter of a day or two. Sod prices will vary depending on how large an area you are covering, and the type of grass you choose.

One thing that you must think about before you figure out the cost, is the type of lawn you want. There are so many varieties of grass to choose from. Keep in mind that they will not all be a good fit for Texas weather. Cool climate grasses would quickly brown in the hot, dry Texas summer. Pick something that suits your climate.

Something else that will impact your cost is whether you intend to do the installation yourself, or if you plan to hire a professional. There are pros and cons to each method. Handling your own installation will of course, save you some money. However, it can be a lot of work. You should be prepared to spend at least a couple of days working on it for a medium sized yard. If on the other hand the yard is a tiny area you can get done faster, and it will be an easier task.

Another important thing about any type of grass is water. Just as grass seeds need a lot of water until they sprout, so too do sods. You will be spending a lot of time over the course of the first two weeks watering your yard. Sprinklers make the job easier.

When you purchase your new lawn, you will buy it by the pallet. One pallet contains enough for several hundred square feet. 500 of them to be exact. If your backyard is a few thousand square feet, you should expect to pay a bit over one thousand dollars for a medium priced sod. Delivery charges will most likely be added on to the final cost.

A much littler yard could be possible for simply a couple of hundred dollars. That of course, depends on if you can do it without anyone else's help. A littler sum can likewise spare you on transport charges. In the event that you have a truck, you can head over and transport it yourself.

The price for skilled workers to do the installation for you will raise the cost significantly. You can easily expect to pay double for this service. Though, if you shop around, you may be able to find someone less expensive.
