When it comes to looking after the garden, there is nothing that exceeds having a lush that is beautiful as the main focus of the garden. Lawn aeration in Redwood city is the technique used by most gardeners which punches very many holes into the soil to allow nutrients from the water, air and sunlight to get to the roots of the grass. If all these nutrients are able to get to the roots, they will become healthier and stronger. Grass will become beautiful and leash.

Aeration will be useful in cases where the lawn is suffering from thatch or starts to look pale. There are various ways of doing the aeration but the easiest is to use spike lawn aerator shoes. These are pairs of molds with lots of spikes coming from their bottom and the molds are slipped over the shoes. You then walk around the garden as the spikes are placed deep into the earth. This provides lots of core holes that allow air and water into the roots.

The shoes have the advantage of enabling one to go about their gardening as the holes are made. As you walk around the garden, there will be aeration of the grass. About frequency of aeration, this depends on several situations. Some people will need to do it once after several months. If the lawns in question are affected by thatch, they should be aerated more regularly. This enables the right nutrients to access the roots.

The timing of doing the procedure is very important for the best results. Grasses doing well in cool conditions like the tall fescue need aeration when they are at peak. This is possible during early months of fall. Grasses that thrive in warm seasons like Bermuda should be aerated in late spring. This can also be done in early summer.

Professionals who offer these services do so at a fee. However, most people choose to do it on their own. Aerators are available to be purchased or rented through various gardening centers and rental outlets. You need to plan in advance prior to aerating season arrives. These machines may be big and heavy, so arrangements must be made to transport them.

The number of passes will be dependent on the condition of the lawn. In the case of older lawns, there will be the need for extra passes. The same will apply for heavy traffic areas. People who are planning to over-seed are advised to rake over the lawn until the core holes are half full before applying the seeds.

After seeding is completed, there should be spreading of starter-type fertilizer which is high in potassium, phosphorous and nitrogen. After that, there should be raking again to break up any remaining cores and spread soil over the seed. There should be light watering which is done often. This keeps the new seed moist until they germinate.

Aerating lawns is very important. It is beneficial to all kinds of lawns. For the best looking grass, it has to be practiced.
