Do not let your pest control problem cause you too much stress. There are dozens of different pests that will quickly exploit any opening into your home. Even if you keep a close watch on your entrance ways, pests can find their way in. This piece offers useful ways to deal with pest infestations.

One way to kill hornets, bees, and wasps near your home is using hairspray. Hairspray contains may chemicals that can destroy these insects. In addition, the scent of hairspray can prevent more of these insects from coming into your home.

Check to see if your refrigerator or pantry has any food items that are expiring soon or stale already. If you have food that is stale, it may attract not only bugs but maggots and flies as well. This is a messy problem that you will want to avoid at all costs.

You can keep ants away from the inside of your home using a mixture of sugar and borax. Start by mixing one cup of sugar and one cup of borax into a quart jar. Then, punch some holes in that jar's lid. Sprinkle it near the baseboards inside your house and around the outside. The ants will eat the sugar and the borax will poison them.

Make sure that when you install your windows, they come equipped with screens for protection. Screens can serve as a very strong line of defense for bugs, as most will not get into your home if you have a good screen up. This small investment can save a lot of trouble in the future.

If you wish to have vegetation near your home, you should keep them a minimum of one foot from the perimeter of your home. Many insects will take up residence here, regardless of the preventative measures you take. By placing the brush within close proximity of the home, you run the risk of these insects invading through windows or doors.

Compare exterminator costs. There are different factors that go into different estimates, so find out what they are. You want to make sure that the person you hire can get rid of these pests for good. However, sometimes that will cost a little more. Do your research before hiring someone.

You need to decide just how much tolerance you have for certain pests. For instance, can you handle an insect in your garden or an ant in your kitchen every now and then? Most people can deal with this very small problem. However, you probably will not tolerate any fleas or ticks in your home. Once you are aware of the amount and type of pest activity you can tolerate, you can then develop a proper plan. Now you should know how to solve your pest control problems. You should also know where to look for more information. With this knowledge, you should have no problems getting everything back on track towards a pest-free life, as long as you use what you've learned and put it into practice.
