Hydroseeding refers to a vegetative method used for planting prepared pieces of land with a slurry. The slurry is made up of seeds, water, mulch, fertilizer, and dyes. Each of the substances contained in the slurry serves a particular purpose. Other materials such as pesticides and herbicides may be included depending on the nature of the soil.

The process is performed using a special piece of device referred to as a hydroseeder. The first model of hydroseeder was made in USA in the 1970 and found more application in other countries around the globe. At that time, the developer had a patent that restricted the production of hydroseeders. However, today things have changed a lot and there are many models of hydroseeders manufactured around the world.

Hydroseeding as a planting method finds application in many places. Some of the places include roadsides, backyards, sports fields, golf courses, and compounds among others. It may be used on fresh projects or for repairing or filling patches in lawns. It is a fast method which can be used on large pieces of grass areas. Its popularity is growing fast as more contractors, home owners, and government agencies start to realize benefits associated with it.

There is a variety of customization alternatives that could be incorporated into this process to get results that suit soil, individual, and environmental requirements. Diverse kinds of grass strains could be combined to create lawns that do elegantly in different weather conditions. The grasses that germinate from such mixtures are tough, durable, and healthy. This is the most effective and economical biological approach of establishing turf.

The cost for hydroseeding a portion is calculated per acre or unit square foot. The price differs according to the application, customization done, and market. The cost is usually a third or half of other traditional techniques such as broadcasting and sodding. It has been assumed in areas where such traditional techniques were formerly utilized because it is superior.

Key advantages associated with this method include better soil erosion control and retention of moisture. The slurry forms a blanket over seeds to conserve moisture hence minimizing the need to irrigate. The mulch decomposes after some time to form manure for the grass. Mulch made from wood is preferable as compared to that made of plastic because wood has a better ability of retaining water. Soil erosion is minimized especially on sloppy areas.

Hydroseeding is done at varying rates. Higher rate application contains additional trackifiers and amendments. Light applications may be used for temporary cost effective dust or erosion control applications. On slopes, the hydroseeder is used to spray the slurry from the top of the hill without requiring the operator to go downhill. Big models of hydroseeders are operated automatically by machines.

When in need for the most perfect answer to hydroseeding, there are many firms globally that provide good services for hire. One must consider the rates charged against the services rendered prior to signing any deal. Gathering more details about a company offering the services from the internet or elsewhere is vital in avoiding mistakes.
