Lawns that are exposed to a lot of wear and tear are very suitable candidates for aeration. Airing lawns makes them to have better air movement, better water movement and better circulation of nutrients. There are numerous benefits of lawn aeration in Redwood City and it is recommended that the process is done every once in a while. The health of the lawns will be improved and the need for maintenance reduced.

There will be increased access to oxygen, organic matter and a host of other nutrients. Growth of grass is dependent a great deal on the availability of air. This will also enable grass to survive in extreme environments. Watering well aerated lawns makes it easier for the moisture to seep into the roots. As a result, there will be healthy root growth and general thriving of the turf.

With enough oxygen in lawns, just half the amount of water will be required to water them as compared to if the air was not there. Beyond that, presence of air prevents running off of excess water that would lead to formation of puddles within the compound. Among the major problems experienced by lawn owners is thatch build up. Dense thatch facilitates proper movement of water and air when it has a lot of air.

Thatch is the stuff found below the soil and grass. When thatch is left to break down naturally, it would take a couple of weeks. Should it be thick, there will be high probability of harmful insects and diseases breeding there. Compacted soil, disturbed sub soil and heavy clay soils are some of the features that encourage thatch build up. If there are such conditions, the grass will most likely be infected.

There will be minimization of compaction of the soil. Soil compaction will usually occur when the soil cakes together as a result of pressure. This will reduce its ability to remove water and retain air more. Whereas this will be of importance to a number of processes, it contributes minimally to healthy maintenance of lawns. The rain and the use of sprinklers are the main causes of compaction. Through addition of enough air, compaction will be minimized.

The growth of weeds will be controlled. As the lawns develop better root systems and get plenty of air, their growth will be enhanced. Being that they are usually top growing, weeds take longer time to recover when compared to grass. As a result, regular grass cutting assists in spreading grass into creation of a thick bed at the expense of the weeds.

When the soil has more air, more living things will be present. These include small plants and animals. When the soil is compacted, these organisms will be drive away because oxygen will be lacking. Such organisms as earthworms assist in decomposition.

Bacteria are also an important part of the decomposition of dead living things in the soil. They will help to break down organic thatch. However, they will only survive when air is present in the soil. The lawn will therefore not be healthy when there is not enough aeration.
